Since posting my solution to the backup hanging Slava from Acronis posted another, more directly solution I’d not seen anywhere else. You can modify the backup’s config file and set use_vss=false to avoid the issue.

Thanks for sharing. It looks like they’ve changed the config from “use_vss=true” to “snapshot_type=vss”. I’m not sure what you’d need to change the snapshot type to in order to disable vss. I’m not seeing “use_vss” anywhere in the config, should it be added if it doesn’t exist already?
I found what was hanging Acronis for my machine; I had used EaseUS to move to an SSD a while back, and I was getting errors in Event Viewer under VSS regarding XML. I used gparted live to rename my gpt partitions, and once I commited the changes and rebooted, VSS started working perfectly.
